WANTED: Photobooth photos

From the looks of it, our photobooth/guestbook was a success...sort of. Unfortunately, our camera ran out batteries halfway through our celebration.

If you took photos at the booth with your own camera, please send them our way! You can reach us at ngansfam@gmail.com (or directly through Will or Rebecca's email addresses). Thanks!

The Missing Invitation

It has come to our attention that a number of our dear friends and family have not yet received their invitation. Perhaps it was a slip of the pen and we got your address wrong. Or perhaps USPS decided the size of the invitation was too non-traditional and deemed it non-machinable-machinable! Whatever the reason, despair not! You are still invited. Below is the text from the invitation, along with other details. Please RSVP.

Flights

Flying into Santa Barbara (SBA) is the most convenient but tends to be expensive.
Flying into Los Angeles (LAX) tends to be much cheaper. From LAX, you can:

a) rent a car and drive (2hrs) to Santa Babara.
The Santa Barbara airport is so small that you are unlikely to get a better rental deal than in LA. If at all possible, please carpool with friends and family. We can put you in touch with folks looking for/offering rides. Or,

b) take a charter airbus directly from LAX for $48 (one way) to the Santa Barbara area. Buses pickup at the airport every 2.5 hours. Or,

c) carpool. Let us know if you are looking for or offering a ride.

Other airports in Southern California are unlikely to be any cheaper. San Francisco is approximately 6 hrs drive away.

Ground Transportation

Cars
Being a small and touristy town, Santa Barbara has limited public transportation. If renting a car from the airport, LAX will have better rates than Santa Barbara, but you can do either. There are regular taxis available, and other options for getting around. If at all possible, please carpool with friends and family.

Trains
Amtrak offers daily service to the area from LA, San Diego, San Francisco, and points inland. The Santa Barbara train station is directly downtown, and you can walk or take the $0.25 shuttle up State Street to get around. The Goleta train station is about 5 miles from the wedding site.

Buses
The Santa Barbara airbus offers $45 service to/from Goleta <--> LAX every 90 minutes. Greyhound and Amtrak also offer regular bus service.

In Town
Once in town, the Santa Barbara bus station offers transit out to Goleta ($1.25) and UCSB, but for the final leg to the wedding site, you may want a cab (the closest bus stop is 1.5 miles away).

There is a downtown trolley for $0.25 service to State street and the beachfront. If you really want to maximize your tourist dollar, be sure to get all your friends on one of these. Nothing screams 'I'm a tourist' like a 4 seater going up and down the beachfront!

Lodging

Goleta, California (zip: 93117) is the closest town to the wedding and reception site. Santa Barbara (zip: 93101), located 10 miles away, offers the most tourist activities, but tends to have the priciest rooms as well. Rooms are blocked (below) at the South Coast Inn Goleta, which is a very nice, affordable option.

The UC visitor page has lots of information about lodging, maps, and sites. Definitely worth a visit.

Room Block
South Coast Inn - We've blocked 20 rooms for the weekend (Friday and Saturday night, May 15th and 16th) for $159 per night. The rooms will be released on April 15. To book a room at the wedding rate, you must call 805-967-3200, extension 161. Reference Ng- Gans wedding.

Hotels
There are numerous other hotels in the area, over a variety of price ranges. Most hotels have a 2-night minimum for weekends. Motel 6 is probably about the cheapest hotel that you are going to be able to find. There are several in the area, but this one is the closest to the wedding site.

Another option is to try Priceline.com--put in a bid for a room at a 2 or 2.5 star hotel in Goleta--you may get lucky and score a room at the Ramada Inn or Holiday Inn for under $100!

This is just before the summer season, but rates are still high in Santa Barbara, averaging at least $200 per night per room (before tax). Book early.

Bed and Breakfast
If bed and breakfasts are your thing, there are a lot to choose from in the area. The surrounding towns also offer some B&Bs.

Housing Rentals
Housing rentals may be available on craigslist from private parties, or from one of the sites that specialize in housing rentals in the Santa Barbara Area. Note: I have no experience with any of these companies: buyer beware. (Site 1 - Site 2 - Site 3 - Site 4 )

Surrounding Areas
Ventura/Oxnard and Santa Maria are about a 1 hr (to the South and North, respectively) drive from the wedding site. Cheaper lodging will most likely be available at one of these locations.

If you do want to stay closer to the wedding site, it is generally cheaper to stay in Goleta rather than Santa Barbara. Also note that hotels near the beach charge a premium.

Activities

A full suite of pre-wedding activities is offered for your enjoyment, including hiking, wine-tasting, golfing, shopping, and baywatching. For coordination purposes, please indicate which of these you are interested in attending.
